Social Studies Education BSEd/Social Studies Education MEd

Career and Academic Opportunities

With certification in Social Studies Education 6-12K, advanced coursework on-site in a local high school, and substantial experience in secondary classrooms (grades 6-12), graduates of the Social Studies Education B.S.Ed./M.Ed. program are in high demand in school systems across the state of Georgia and beyond. For the last several years, nearly 100% of recent graduates seeking teaching positions had job offers before the end of their final semester in the program. Graduates are recommended for a master's level teaching certificate (T-5), which earns a higher teaching salary in Georgia and in most states across the U.S. Graduates have also gone on to pursue additional graduate degrees (e.g., Education Specialist, doctorate), leadership/education administration certification, teacher leader certification, and advanced degrees in related disciplines including educational psychology (e.g., applied cognition and development, gifted and creative education), education policy, community or school counseling, school psychology, social work, and human development and family science.
