Sport Management BSEd/Kinesiology MS(Sport Management and Policy)(non-thesis)

Career and Academic Opportunities

The primary objective of the sport management program is to provide students with the interdisciplinary knowledge, professional application, critical thinking, problem-solving, and leadership skills necessary to effectively manage sport and exercise programs. Students are provided with learning opportunities to acquire the ability to work with and through diverse groups of people to achieve stated organizational goals. Proficient application of business principles to the sport industry distinguishes this program, which is characterized by helping students develop a foundation in finance, economics, budgeting, marketing, law, governance and policy, facility design, event operations, and human resources management so that students can then apply these general principles to the sport industry. Students are also prepared to possess the competitive knowledge and skills to effectively communicate their ideas through both written and oral forms of presentations.

Our graduates go on to work in a variety of administrative areas within the sport industry, such as professional sport teams, college athletic departments, sport marketing and public relations firms, sports agencies, and health and fitness facilities. Graduates enter a competitive work environment where a master's-level degree can separate themselves in the industry marketplace. 80% of our undergraduate students find full time employment or enter graduate school immediately upon graduation. The value of pairing a master's degree can be seen when these numbers increase to 98% for our master's non-thesis graduates. Students are recommended for a master's-level degree which earns a higher starting salary, increases entry-level of employment in the field and is necessary for further career advancement.
