Admission to Program
Student should apply for the B.S./M.S. program on or before the spring semester annual deadline.
To be considered for this dual degree pathway, the student must complete a College of Engineering Pathway Application (PDF) and meet the following requirements:
1) Have an overall UGA GPA of 3.0.
2) Students must have a minimum of 63 credit hours completed towards their B.S. degree.
3) Submit a Statement of Purpose indicating their research interests and career goals.
4) Provide three letters of reference. One of the letters must be from a faculty member within the School of CMB indicating that the faculty member will serve as the student’s mentor during the next academic year (senior year in Engineering). In this role, the faculty member will commit their time to helping the student start their graduate program and give them advice on potential coursework, research advisors, and research projects. By agreeing to serve as the student’s mentor, the faculty member does not guarantee funding for the student or continued advisement during their fifth year in the program.
5) Demonstration of research experience is desirable.
During their senior year:
6) Students will be required to work in the faculty mentor's laboratory to gain experience and potentially begin their research program.
7) Students can but are not required to, participate in the UGA CURO program as part of their research experience.
8) Student will apply for Admission to the Graduate Program.

Curriculum
Graduate-level courses that may be used to satisfy undergraduate and graduate program requirements.
During the third/fourth year, students will take BIOE 6740 Biomaterials and can either select 3 courses in the Biological Engineering program or select at least two courses from Biological Engineering. One course can be selected either in the Biochemical Engineering program or can be a Science Elective to complete at the 6000 level. Courses which are presently offered at the 6000 level are:

Additional requirements that are unique to this Double Dawgs program:
Student must complete the following graduate courses:
a) Required Courses
• ENGR 6910: Foundations for Engineering Research
• BIOE 8970: Bioengineering Seminar (2 semesters)
• ENGR 8103: Computational Engineering
• ENGR 8490: Advanced Biomaterials
b) One of the following courses (Secondary Required Courses):
• BCHE 8150: Heterogeneous Reactor Design and Bio/Catalysis
• ENGR 8160: Advanced Fluid Mechanics
• ENGR 8170: Advanced Heat Transfer
• ENGR 8180: Advanced Mass Transport
• Any appropriate science elective at the 6000-level
c) A minimum of 9 credit hours of research hours (e.g. ENGR 7000/7010), completed during summers between third/fourth years, fourth/fifth years, and after fifth year (if necessary).
d) Additional courses may be required based on recommendation of the student’s Graduate Advisory Committee.
Admission to Graduate Program
The student must apply and be admitted to the UGA graduate school. Their performance during their fourth year and any relevant testing (GRE, TOEFL) will be considered.
