Russian AB (Russian Language and Literature Track)/International Policy MIP

Many government positions now prefer and even require a master’s degree. This Double Dawgs pathway affords high-achieving undergraduate students the opportunity to hone their interest and expand their analytic skills in preparation for policy-oriented careers in government, multinational corporations, consultancies, as well as intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations. The MIP curriculum builds on foundations of theory, method, and practice, addressing a range of contemporary security concerns with an emphasis on interagency collaboration. Specialized tracks focusing on nonproliferation and human security prepare students for careers inside and outside of the government. While many students seek the MIP as their final professional degree, the Double Dawgs pathway will also allow students to earn their master’s degree with the ability of later entering a Ph.D. or other advanced degree programs to pursue careers in academia.

Admission to Program

To be admitted into the dual degree pathway, students must have completed at least 30 hours of credit in residence at UGA, have completed or be enrolled in RUSS 3011, and have at least a 3.5 institutional GPA at the time of application. Most Russian Language and Literature Track students will submit their pathway application in the fall semester of their third year. All students should schedule an appointment with the Graduate Advisor early in the fall semester of their second year to determine when their pathway application is due.

Pathway applicants must submit their CV/resume and a 2-page statement in which they discuss their career aspirations and goals, how they believe the MIP will support them in achieving those goals, and any relevant work or other experience that has informed their goals and application to the MIP. Curriculum

Graduate-level courses that may be used to satisfy undergraduate and graduate program requirements.

Graduate-level courses should be chosen in consultation with the graduate and undergraduate advisors. Students may take four of the following MIP graduate courses to satisfy undergraduate degree requirements:

INTL 8279, 3: Energy Security

Admission to Graduate Program

Students should apply to the MIP graduate program in the fall of year 4 to matriculate full-time into the MIP in the fall of year 5. Students must submit the full graduate application, including CV/resume, personal statement, transcripts, and 3 letters of recommendation. GRE scores are not required for Double Dawgs Pathway students.
