Music BMus(Music Education)/Music MM(Performance)(non- thesis)

Career opportunities include music performance in a variety of settings, including professional orchestras, military bands/orchestras/choirs, freelance performing, accompanying, church music, and ensemble participation, as well as preparation for further graduate studies in music performance and other related musical fields. Additional career opportunities in teaching within the public schools, including band, orchestra and choral programs.

Admission to Program

Interested B.Mus. AoE Music Education majors should submit a departmental application form for the dual degree pathway by the end of the first semester of their junior year, either at the time of their first semester performance jury or their junior recital, whichever occurs at the end of the first semester of their junior year. The departmental application form can be found on the Hugh Hodgson School of Music website (www.music.uga.edu).

The skill, musicianship, and artistry demonstrated in the junior-level performance jury and junior recital will form the principal eligibility for admission. Applicants will submit three letters of reference, including their principal studio teacher, a major ensemble conductor, and one additional member of the music faculty.

Other eligibility requirements include:
• Obtain a C or better in all Area VI and pre-professional course work
• A cumulative and overall GPA of 2.8,
• A passing grade or exemption on the GACE Entry Assessment,
• A pre-service certificate,
• Successful completion of the following courses: MUSI 2100 Music Theory III; MUSI 2110 Aural Skills III; MUSI 2520 Class Piano III (Choral Music Education Majors must also have completed MUSI 2550 Piano for Choral Music Educators); MUSI 2820 Sophomore Applied Lessons & Recital; and at least one course from the following: MUSI 3020, 3021, 3210, 3220, or 3030 required Music History course.
