Special Education BSEd(Adapted Curriculum)/Special Education MEd(Birth-Kindergarten, with Emphasis in Preschool Special Education)(non-thesis)

Upon completion of this program, graduates will be eligible for Georgia certification in the following areas:
PreK-12th grade, adapted curriculum special education
Pre-K and kindergarten, general education

Students will also earn an endorsement in Preschool Special Education and be credentialed to work with students with and without disabilities between the ages of birth and 3 years. Career opportunities include classroom teaching in general or special education classrooms for young children, classroom teaching in special education prek-12th grade, and early intervention.

Admission to Program

The B.S.Ed. in Special Education (Adapted Curriculum) follows a cohort model with students beginning in the Fall semester each year. Applying to the B.S.Ed./M.Ed. pathway will require you to join a cohort and indicate your interest in the B.S.Ed./M.Ed. Double Dawg pathway on the cohort application. Applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis during each Spring semester until cohorts reach capacity.

To enter the B.S.Ed. in Special Education (Adapted Curriculum) program, students must meet the following minimum criteria:
-Overall minimum GPA of 3.0
-Completion of Core Areas I-VI is required by the end of the semester of application.
-Students who do not have transfer credit for EDSE 2000** and/or EDIT 5100E may complete these courses later in the program of study, if accepted.
-Grade of C or better in EDIT 5100E, EDUC 2120, EDUC (EPSY) 2130, and EDSE 2000**
-** No grade lower than B in EDSE 2000
-No grade lower than C in Core Area VI
-Completion of (1) Federal and Georgia Constitution and (2) U.S. and Georgia History University requirements by the end of the semester of application (Note: You may only take the exemption exams for these subjects a certain number of times. Please consult with the UGA Testing Center to ensure your timeline works.)

All students admitted to the pathway are required to have a GAPSC pre-service certificate prior to taking EDSE 4441, 4442, and 4443: Practicum in Special Education.

To continue the master's portion of the program, students will apply to the Graduate School in spring of year 4. Application should be made for summer entry.
