Advertising AB/Journalism and Mass Communication(Journalism)(non-thesis)

Graduates of this program will be prepared to assume positions in journalism, including newspapers, magazines, journalistic websites, and broadcast news organizations.

Admission to Program

Students must have a 3.0 GPA to apply and must submit a two-page statement of purpose. Applications are typically due before the withdrawal deadline of every fall and spring semester. The application deadline for each term will be announced on Grady's website

Students may take 6 of the 12 credit hours of graduate-level courses outside of Grady College. Ideally, a student should have space available in their Upper Division Electives or General Electives to accommodate these 6 credit hours.

Additional requirements that are unique to this Double Dawgs program:

Students can apply to this pathway after they are accepted into the advertising major, usually during their first semester of major coursework. Students must have a 3.0 GPA to apply and must submit a two-page statement of purpose. Applications are typically due before the withdrawal deadline of every fall and spring semester. The application deadline for each term will be announced on Grady's website. It is recommended that undergraduate students have at least three semesters left in their plan of study in order to complete all overlap coursework

Admission to Graduate Program

Students accepted into the program will be formally admitted to the Graduate School after completion of the undergraduate degree in spring of year 4. Students must apply to the Graduate School for the semester they plan to graduate with their bachelor's degree. The deadline for undergraduates completing their degree in the fall is November 1st. The deadline for undergraduates completing their degree in the spring is March 1st.

Required graduate application materials:
• Unofficial copies of all transcripts, including any transcripts from institutions previously attended before transferring to UGA or as a dual enrollment student
• Contact information for the three people completing letters of recommendation
• Statement of purpose; students may build off the statement that was submitted for admission to the Double Dawgs program.
• Résumé/CV

Note: students will not need to provide any test scores, including the GRE, or a writing sample to apply to the program.
