Electrical and Electronics Engineering BSEE/Engineering MS(Electrical and Computer Engineering)

The completion of a thesis M.S. in Engineering enables the student to gain in-depth expertise through their research and supporting coursework that can launch them into a Ph.D. and accelerate their doctoral work or give them a competitive edge and add experience years for industry employment. Earning an M.S. has been shown to significantly improve total earning potential over the length of a career verses a B.S. alone.

Admission to Program

Students will be allowed to apply to the Double Dawgs Dual Degree program during the spring semester of their junior year in Engineering.

To be considered for this dual degree pathway, the student must complete a College of Engineering Pathway Application (PDF) and meet the following requirements:

1) Have an overall UGA GPA of at least 3.0.
2) Have completed (or be currently enrolled in) all pre-requisites necessary to enroll in Capstone Design I (CSEE 4910 or ELEE 4910) during Fall semester of their Senior year.
3) Submit an essay indicating their research interests and career goals within an ECE degree program.
4) Provide a letter of support from a faculty member within the School of ECE indicating that the faculty member will serve as the student’s mentor during the next academic year (senior year in Engineering) and continue as the student’s graduate mentor during their M.S. year (fifth year). In this role, the faculty member will commit his/her time to helping the student start and complete their graduate program and give advice on potential coursework and direction of the research project. By agreeing to serve as the student’s mentor, the faculty member does not guarantee funding for the student.
5) Demonstration of research experience is desirable.

During Their Senior Year:
Students will be required to work in their research mentor’s laboratory to gain experience. Students can, but are not required to, participate in the UGA CURO program as part of their research experience.

Curriculum

Graduate-level courses that may be used to satisfy undergraduate and graduate program requirements.

Requirements must be met for both the B.S. in Electrical Engineering and the M.S. in Engineering with Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Emphasis. The integrity of each individual program is maintained when selecting courses (maximum 12 credit hours) that may be used to satisfy the requirements of both programs.

- To obtain the dual degree students must complete the requirements for both degrees. Up to 12 credit hours may be used to satisfy requirements for both degrees.
- Students may use any of the following courses (up to 12 credit hours) to satisfy requirements for both the B.S. and M.S. degrees:
- Three (9 hours) 6000-level courses
- ENGR 8910/8910E Foundations for Engineering Research (3 hours)

Additional requirements that are unique to this Double Dawgs program:

The requirements of the B.S. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and the M.S. in Engineering with ECE Emphasis must both be met. The M.S. in Engineering is a thesis research master's. The requirements of the M.S. in Engineering with Area of Emphasis in ECE may be found at the College of Engineering or School of Electrical and Computer Engineering websites.

Admission to Graduate Program

The student must apply and be admitted to the UGA graduate school. Their performance during their fourth year and any relevant testing (GRE, TOEFL) will be considered.
