Biology BS/Educational Psychology MEd (Applied Cognition and Development)

For students who specify a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, the addition of a Master of Education degree with Educational Psychology, with an Emphasis in Applied Cognition and Development, may provide additional employment opportunities in the areas of instruction, educational administration, educational consulting, and curriculum development. The applied nature of this MEd program would allow for increased employment opportunities for students.

Admission to Program

Students may apply to the Double Dawgs pathway in the Spring of their third undergraduate year or at 90 completed credits. Applicants to the Double Dawgs pathway are expected to have a strong academic record with an undergraduate overall GPA of 3.3 or higher. Applications are evaluated each semester and once accepted, students may enroll in M.Ed. courses the following semester.

Once accepted to the Double Dawgs Pathway, students must achieve a B or higher in all Double Dawgs courses and maintain a minimum overall GPA of 3.3 to remain in the program.

Admission to the pathway does not guarantee admission to the graduate program.

Additional requirements that are unique to this Double Dawgs program:

In addition to the 33 credit hours required for the M.Ed., after admission to the graduate program, students will be required to take a professional development seminar (1 credit hour each semester) as well as a GradFIRST seminar (1 credit).

Admission to Graduate Program

Students will apply for admission to the graduate program in the fall of year four. Applications must be submitted by December 1 to the Department of Educational Psychology. Students must meet the minimum requirements for entry into the MEd in Educational Psychology – Applied Cognition and Development program. Students can follow the UGA Graduate School’s application portal to complete the MEd Educational Psychology Application. Required materials include:

• Resume/Curriculum vitae (CV)
• Statement of purpose
• 3 Letters of recommendation
• Official transcripts demonstrating achievement (B or higher) in coursework

Students with an overall GPA of 3.3 or higher are exempt from the Graduate Schools required entrance exam – the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
