History AB/Middle Grades Education MAT(Social Studies and Language Arts)(non-thesis)

Career and Academic Opportunities

With dual certification in both Social Studies and Language Arts, advanced coursework on-site in middle schools in a "teaching hospital" Professional Development School model, and substantial experience in middle grades classrooms (grades 4-8), graduates of the Middle Grades Education MAT program are in high demand in school systems across the state of Georgia and beyond. For the last several years, nearly 100% of recent graduates seeking teaching positions had job offers before the end of their final semester in the program. Graduates are recommended for a master's level teaching certificate (T-5), which earns a higher teaching salary in Georgia and in most states across the U.S. Graduates have also gone on to pursue additional graduate degrees (e.g., Education Specialist, doctorate), leadership/education administration certification, teacher leader certification, and advanced degrees in related disciplines including educational psychology (e.g., applied cognition and development, gifted and creative education), education policy, community or school counseling, school psychology, social work, and human development and family science.
